A dominant FC Goa hammered Churchill Brothers 4-0 in the AIFF U-18 Elite Youth League football tournament organised by All India Football Federation, in a match played at SAG ground, Utorda on Thursday. FC Goa were leading 3-0 at the breather.
FC Goa attacked the rival defence from the start and Joyber Ronaldo Almeida missed two scoring chances from close range. First in the 6th minute, his rasping shot was saved by Musavvir Khan under the Churchill bar. Two minutes later, again his shot was blocked by defender Rohan Mane from close range.
Churchill Brothers made the first threatening move in the 10th minute, but Meaven Fernandes’ powerful shot sailed over the bar. FC Goa opened the scoring in the 12th minute through Doyal Alves. Three minutes later, Brison Fernandes doubled the lead through a deft placement. Churchill had an opportunity to reduce the margin in the 28th minute, but Travis Souza’s shot missed the target narrowly.
FC Goa dominated the match in the last quarter of the first session and scored the third goal through Meuton Fernandes with just two minutes left for the breather. Churchill defended well in the second session but conceded another goal in the 77th minute, which was scored by substitute Jovito Dias.
