Legal experts deliberate on constitutional challenges

Constitutional values, civil liberties and contemporary legal challenges took centre stage at the 5th State Conference of the Goa unit of the All India Lawyers Union (AILU), held at V M Salgaocar College of Law, Miramar.

The conference brought together legal experts, senior advocates, constitutional scholars, law students and academics for discussions on key issues confronting India’s legal and constitutional framework.

At the inaugural session, speakers highlighted the importance of an independent judiciary, protection of civil rights, secularism and the rule of law. They stressed the need to preserve and strengthen constitutional values amid rapidly changing social and legal realities.

Participants noted that constitutional principles remain the cornerstone of democratic governance and must be defended against emerging challenges. The deliberations focused on fostering greater awareness of constitutional rights and responsibilities while encouraging informed public engagement with legal issues.

AILU Goa State President Adv Victor Savio Braganca was among the prominent attendees.

The discussions were described as both insightful and forward-looking, offering valuable perspectives not only for members of the legal fraternity but also for journalists, social activists and concerned citizens with speakers examining the evolving legal landscape and the challenges involved in safeguarding democratic and constitutional principles.
