St Anthony’s Sports Club Marna registered a 5-3 win over Saligao Sporting Club in the GFA 2nd Division League, organised by Goa Football Association, at Duler stadium, here on Thursday.
The Marna colts held the upper hand in the first session to go into the breather with a two-goal cushion. St Anthony’s would have taken an early lead in the very first minute, where a defensive lapse by Saligao’s Francis and Shubham, saw Siddharth Shirodkar intercept the ball. But with just the rival keeper Raul to beat, he shot wide
from close.
In the 20th minute, Videsh set up Claudio but the latter’s strike rebounded off the Saligao’s goalpost.
Saligao’s best chance to take the lead came in the 33rd minute where Melisto Nunes collected a pass from Inacio Menezes and drilled a shot at the goal which hit the upright.
In the 29th and 35th minutes, St Anthony’s Marna scored two quick goals. Vidhesh Sawant latched on a blistering shot from top of the box to put Marna ahead while Vasudev Agarwadekar doubled the lead as he intelligently chipped the ball over an onrushing Saligao keeper, 2-0.
On crossing over, the Saligao colts tried to get back into the match with medio Assumption Crasto and Uday Naik trying to keep their strikers Melisto and Ajay Diwadkar busy upfront but the last line of Marna defence, marshalled by Claudion and Francis, did not budge under pressure.
Another missed clearance, this time by Saligao keeper Raul Holkar, hit an onrushing Marna player Vipul Pednekar and the latter tapped the ball into the goal, 3-0. Just 10 minutes later, Sangam Pednekar netted in the fourth goal with a neat placement, 4-0.
Down by four goals, Saligao Sporting come back strongly and scored thrice through Chandan Govekar. In the 73rd minute Chandan controlled a through pass from Ajay and slammed the ball into the far corner of the goal, 4-1. Energised by the goal, Chandan scored his brace with Ajay once again doing the spadework, 4-2.
Chandan was back in action to net his hat-trick with Ajay being the provider once again, 4-3. However Marna colts pumped in their fifth goal, where a long cross by Kashiram Pompurphekar from the left flank entered the goal after hitting the far goalpost, 5-3.

In another match played at Sirsaim ground, Sinquerim Sports Club twice came from behind to hold Assonora United Football Club 2-2.
Assonora took the lead in the 64th minute through Sairaj Halarnkar and Sinquerim soon equalised through Pratik Tirodkar. Sairaj once again gave his side the lead in the 87th minute only to see his effort cancelled out by Salil Parwar in the second half stoppage time.
