That the Closed Circuit TV (CCTV) surveillance cameras installed across the State’s commercial capital are lying defunct for want of maintenance by the District Collector, South, is an open secret.
What, however, has left many a many a citizen and even the authorities wondering is whether the defunct CCTV cameras are not on the agenda of the authorities and the government.
An advertising board has come on a pole at the Old Market circle, completely blocking the view of the camera, throwing up questions whether the government has decided against reviving the defunct cameras.
“This is not only surprising, but shocking that an advertising board has come up on a pole at the Old Market circle blocking the view of the surveillance camera,” remarked a motorist.
It isn’t clear whether the advertising board has come up on the pole with the permission of the Margao Municipal Council and whether the civic body was aware that the advertising board. “It is a fact that the CCTV cameras are not functioning for the moment. But the authorities should clarify whether the cameras will never be revived again or whether the advertising board has come without the knowledge of the civic body,” the citizen added.
