The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has walked out from the coalition government with the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Jammu and Kashmir. The coalition faltered and failed, and BJP’s act of quitting now is too late and too little. The BJP’s inability to fulfill its electoral promises regarding Article 370 would be questioned in the run-up to the 2019 General Elections. Hence, the BJP will now attempt to score brownie points and claim a moral high-ground. It is an irony that now the BJP seems to have suddenly noticed the faults in their coalition, while it was earlier claiming that the ground situation in Jammu and Kashmir had improved. The solution now is to soon hold fresh elections, as the people of Jammu and Kashmir should have their right to elect a fresh Assembly.
