Go fish!
It is over a year now since the mobile fish vans were launched with great pomp by the Fisheries Ministry at Chapora followed by South Goa to give quality fish to Goans at subsidized rates but it looks like it is just another of the numerous u-turns of this government as we the people of Verna and surrounding areas have not seen any of these vans in our locality. Looks like this service is dedicated only for the people of Navelim constituency.

Protect students
The recent cases of two teachers attempting to molest/ rape minor girls at the school premises amply depict the declining respect to the female gender. A teacher is supposed to inculcate good moral values among students and not take undue advantage of their innocence. It is time for students to remain alert and resist any attempt of molestation/ rape that ought to be carried out by any of the teachers, sooner or later. Such cases must be brought to the notice of the school principal and parents at once so that whoever found guilty would ultimately be taken to task. It is necessary for every school to install CCTV cameras compulsorily, so that the concerned clippings would help in hastening the investigation process. Equally important is that teachers exhibit some understanding and sympathy towards innocent children and not consider them to be a tool for satisfying their instincts/ interests. No doubt, students should receive protection at all costs.

Standard of living
The average blue collar worker in the United Kingdom doesn’t earn more than 2500 Pounds per month, which means that their annual salary will definitely be less than 35,000 Pounds. This means they will lose their chance to live in Britain. What does this mean for the Portuguese passport holder? Will they have to go back to Portugal or will they come back to Goa? This might mean that we will have many unemployed people here who will obviously refuse to do the small jobs that they did in England. Here working in the supermarket or boxing products in factories doesn’t earn enough for someone to survive. It is high time that the government of Goa look to raising the wages and salary slabs of people in the public sector. They also need to ensure that the private sector too follows a similar model. Even if those from the UK and Europe don’t come down to Goa, the Goans living here need to have a better quality of life. Now with tourists coming and spending money in Goa, at restaurants etc, the prices have gone up rendering it impossible for the average Goan to enjoy those luxuries, which 10 years ago wouldn’t have been a problem. The government needs to do this soon.
