PWD must build quality roads that last longer

The  announcement made by the PWD minister, Sudin Dhavalikar regards hot-mixing  of all roads in the state is welcome. But, I wish that the minister  would issue strict instructions to the officials of PWD to grant the  work of hot-mixing to contractors who would ensure that they provide  quality roads that would last for a minimum of 3 years, failing which  they along with the concerned PWD officials should be taken to task and penalised  or their payments withheld or forfeited. After all, is it not the taxpayers  money being utilised for this purpose? One hopes that this assurance is  not an election gimmick to fool the already fooled Goenkars.

Govt tampering with safety valve of democracy

The Supreme Court which is hearing the plea against the arrest of five activists by the Maharashtra police has put it so beautifully. Justice D Y Chandrachud said “dissent is the safety valve of democracy. If not allowed, the safety valve will burst”.  The police action appears to be a ploy to target dissent, otherwise how can one explain the arrests made for allegedly inciting violence in the Bhima Koregaon violence in January when in the first place these names…
