Following the disastrous accident on the Porvorim flyover, the PWD has finally woken up to the need for installing signboards along the service road. However, the confusing speed limit signs, with 40 km/h displayed on the service road and 65 km/h on the road meant for the new flyover from the Guirim starting point, could leave motorists confused. The authorities have also marked zebra crossings at a few junctions, necessitating the removal of some landscaped plants. Meanwhile, the Electricity Department is yet to clear transformers and distribution boxes that obstruct pedestrian footpaths. Will the authorities review these road safety deficiencies and take corrective action? It would be prudent for them to consult the Village Road Safety Committee and the North Goa District Road Safety Committee for an early site inspection. Public suggestions should also be invited to identify problems and improve safety for motorists and pedestrians.
