Canada will be softening their stance on marijuana and fully legalizing it soon. They will become the second country in the world to do so, after Uruguay. Individuals will soon be allowed to keep small amounts in their possession and even grow a few plants at home. Of course, access will be restricted to 18 years and older.
Even the United States has seen the benefits of legalizing marijuana in many states and countries in Europe have been slowly easing up via legislation and regulation. The reason is that criminal prohibition is failing. It is becoming increasing tedious to fight the war on drugs. Large amounts of money and resources have been spent over the past decades, ever since the US started the war in the 60s. Marijuana is a soft drug and the legalization of it, in America, Canada, Germany, Uruguay and other countries has seen crime, especially gang related crime, go down.
The money and resources are diverted to other sectors, including harder chemical drugs, which have worse effects in society. Legalisation leads to regulation and regulation leads to a much safer place to live. It seems to be working.
