The Supreme Court has delivered a landmark verdict in striking down triple talaq terming it as "void, illegal and unconstitutional" and the decision is being hailed as a landmark verdict by political parties across the spectrum.
The historic judgement will now be under intense political and religious debate over the next few days and can also be challenged. However, the war against triple talaq is half won for now as the apex court has banned it for six months and asked Parliament to bring in a law to implement it. All said and done, the BJP will not only get a huge advantage vis-a-vis the Muslim votes going into the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, but will also help the ruling party to fulfill one of its key promises of bringing about a Uniform Civil Code as envisaged in its 2014 manifesto.
