The bookings for the phone can be done for free on Jio's website with a refundable fee of Rs 1,500. It doesn't sound like a bad deal. Not trailing behind, Airtel too is planning to launch a 4G feature phone that would cost Rs 2,500. Not too long ago 1GB of 3/4G data would cost nothing less than Rs 250 and the cheapest 4G device would at least cost Rs 7,000.
Jio indeed started a revolution in wireless broadband connectivity in India and that too for an affordable price, others followed suit. At Rs 1,500 practically any person will be able to own a 4G device. A decade ago Reliance did something similar, it gave the common man a mobile phone at Rs 501 and that will not be forgotten. One cannot write off the fact that Reliance has indeed played a primary role in rewriting wireless communication history in India.
