While politicians are known to sing a different tune eachday, it is not known why our scientists and medical experts keep changing theirstand time and again during this critical period of the pandemic. Severalvaccines have been developed to combat the virus and its strains, but theirefficacy is still to be known. While some vaccines are said to be 45 per centeffective after the first jab and 70-80 per cent after the second dose, othersare reported to have different efficacy percentages. Earlier, it was safe andeffective to take the second jab after 28 days. Later, it was changed to 6-8weeks, and now 12-16 weeks. It is still not known why some people die after thefirst jab, while others test positive even after the second jab. The reason isoften said to be co-morbidities -- a term which is yet to be clearly defined.Until a few months back, plasma therapy was said to be the miracle cure forCovid. Today, it is a different story and proved to be ineffective. Lately, theGoa government has gone all out to promote ‘Ivermectin’ as prophylaxistreatment for those 18 and above as well as to reduce the mortality rate ofCovid patients. The WHO, on the other hand, warned against its indiscriminateuse. Today, another deadly ‘black fungus’ infection is taking a heavy toll onCovid patients and even those who have recovered. Overuse of steroids andsevere diabetes is said to be the cause, but no one knows for sure the realreason. Social distancing of 6 feet may now prove to be ineffective sincestudies have shown that the Covid virus aerosols and droplets can travel up to10 metres. So, in this uncertain and dismal scenario, the question uppermost inthe minds is ‘what is the truth'?
