CANACONA
Six days after Cyclone Tauktae wreaked havoc in Canacona and damaged over 50 poles and alignments, power supply was finally restored to the entire taluka by Friday night.
In a press note on behalf of his staff at Sub-division III, Canacona Assistant Engineer Sanjay Goankar thanked the people of Canacona for bearing the discomfort and inconvenience faced due to power outages/failure of power supply because of the severe Cyclone Tauktae.
“Further, we are very grateful to Dy Speaker and Canacona MLA Isidore Fernandes and various elected members of Canacona Municipal Council and all village panchayats in Canacona taluka for helping our electricity department officials for restoration of breakdowns,” stated Gaonkar.
According to Gaonkar, the entire HT poles and alignments have been fully restored in all parts of the taluka.
“We have also been successful to restore power supply in each and every household in Canacona taluka by Friday night. Even at Marli, where the LT alignment has been badly damaged, electricity has been restored via an alternate route, but the restoration of alignment works is underway.”
Stating that the contractor’s workforce had assisted the department since the last two days, Gaonkar said 75% of repair, restoration and rehabilitation works of HT and LT alignments had been carried out by the departmental staff.
