Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Ramdas Athawale on Saturday said he would write to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting him to compensate Goa and all other states affected by Cyclone Tauktae.
He also stated that the lockdown in Goa, Maharashtra and Karnataka had helped in reducing the number of daily Covid cases and mortalities.
“The damage is severe in Goa and Konkan. Farmers should at least get compensation of Rs 50,000 per hectare,” said Athawale, while speaking at a news conference in Vasco.
Athawale was on a two-day tour of Maharashtra and Goa to assess the situation in the aftermath of the cyclone.
“The cyclone has caused major damage to farmers, especially mango growers in Goa and the Konkan region of Maharashtra. In Goa, the loss incurred by the cyclone is approximately Rs 40 crore, as assessed by state government agencies.”
“Fishermen in Goa have also suffered huge losses. They need a special package. Gujarat, Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu are some of the states were also affected severely by the cyclone,” added the union minister.
Speaking on the Covid-19 pandemic, Athawale said the central government is giving equal justice to all states for vaccination and assured that every citizen would be vaccinated.
“Now, the supply of Remdesivir has stabilised in the country,” said the union minister.
Stating that the lockdown in Goa, Maharashtra and Karnataka had helped in reducing the number of daily cases and mortalities, Athawale appealed for citizen participation to contain the spread of coronavirus.
