High expectation from charters

With Saudi Air’s Boeing touching down Dabolim’s runway 0826at 11:20 pm on the night of October 6, Goa’s new tourist season will officiallybegin. Russia again tops the chart with 90 percent of the total bookings ofinternational charter flights landing at Goa.

The State is gearing up for the tourism season ahead, asarrival of around 738 international flights has already been confirmed tilldate. It is expected to go up further.

Bigger aircrafts includes Boeing 747 and Airbus 330, besidesothers like Boeing 767, 777, 755 and IL-97 is expected to arrive in the statefor the charter season.

“Till now we have we have bookings of 738 flights which areconfirmed from countries like Russia, England, Ukraine, Germany, Sweden,Kazakhstan, Finland, Latvian, and Poland,” said N Suresh, the Director ofAirport Authority of India at Dabolim.

He further said that adequate arrangements in terms ofpassenger’s facilities will be made at the airport. Immigration counter,customs counter will be made besides utilizing the domestic side counters.

During night operations of charter flights especialarrangement would be made so as to make facilities passenger friendly thisyear, he added.

“Although the existing building is saturated, it is beingutilized efficiently. However, after the opening of the new integrated terminalbuilding, which is expected to be operational by 2013 tourism season,facilities will definitely improve,” Suresh said.

“We are certain that with the new buildings and a newterminal the total charter bookings would cross 1000 plus mark,” Suresh said.
