The final rites of late Vijaya Naik, wife of Union Ayush Minister Shripad Naik, were performed at the crematorium in Adpai-Ponda on Thursday.
The body arrived at their native residence in Adpai from the Naik family’s present residence in Sao Pedro, Old Goa and several leaders cutting across parties were among the large crowds to offer their final respects to late Vijaya and condolences to the bereaved family members.
The leaders included Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, BJP State President Sadanand Tanavade, Deputy CM Babu Ajgaonkar, Art and Culture Minister Govind Gaude, PWD Minister Deepak Pauskar, Mapusa MLA Joshua D’Souza, Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai, Ponda MLA Ravi Naik, NCP State President Jose Philip D’Souza, GPCC President Girish Chodankar, former union minister Ramakant Khalap, Rajya Sabha MP Vinay Tendulkar, former South Goa MP Narendra Sawaikar, Subhash Velingkar, Ponda Municipal Council Chairperson Vishwanath Dalvi and former PMC chairperson Venkatesh Naik.
Later, the final rites were performed by the three sons, Siddesh, Saish and Yogesh.
Union Ayush Minister Shripad Naik is currently undergoing treatment at GMC hospital at Bambolim, and many locals expressed profound sadness that Naik could not be present to attend to the final rites of his departed wife.
