Goa recorded a 6.8 per cent rise in railway tourist arrivals during the first five months of 2026, with nearly 19.9 lakh passengers reaching the State by train between January and May.
According to the latest tourism arrival data shared with the media on Tuesday, 19,87,862 passengers arrived in Goa by rail during the January-May period this year, compared to 18,60,568 during the same period in 2025. The figure is also 6.5 per cent higher than the corresponding period
in 2024.
Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte said the increase in railway arrivals showed that more travellers were choosing Goa as a year-round destination.
“Better rail connectivity, a wider range of tourism experiences beyond our beaches, and our continued focus on quality tourism are encouraging more visitors to return to Goa. As we expand our tourism offerings in heritage, spirituality, hinterland, wellness, adventure, culture and monsoon tourism, we expect this positive trend to continue,” he said.
The month-wise data showed higher railway arrivals in every month compared to 2025. Goa received 4,43,621 passengers in January, up from 4,25,913 a year earlier. February recorded 3,56,319 arrivals, compared to 3,43,921, while March saw arrivals rise to 3,59,131 from 3,20,195.
In April, railway arrivals increased to 3,74,691 from 3,66,033 in 2025. May recorded the highest monthly arrivals during the period, with 4,54,100 passengers, up from 4,04,506 in the same month last year.
Director of Tourism Kedar Naik said the steady rise in railway arrivals reflected Goa’s growing popularity, improved accessibility and the success of efforts to promote tourism throughout the year.
“Rail connectivity continues to play an important role in bringing visitors from across India, making it easier for families, groups and young travellers to visit Goa. As connectivity improves further, we look forward to welcoming more visitors to experience everything Goa has to offer,” he said.
