Butterfly Beach

Butterfly Beach Captured by : pg 4- go here _1

Butterfly beach is a tiny cove that lies to the north of Palolem Beach,Canacona at a distance of 37km from Margao. It is said to be one of the most photogenic places on the whole Arabian coastline. The sand here looks perfectly white and the water is translucent. There is no access to the beach by road as it is heavily forested. When the trees are in bloom you can see a wide variety of butterflies flying around. In fact, the range of butterflies is probably what gave the name to this chaste beach.

During low tide, you can see the shore littered with crabs and goldfish as well as sea urchins, sea cucumbers and even redfish early in the morning. Butterfly Beach is said to be the favorite place for dolphins as well. If that isn't enough, you will even be able to see the most breathtakingly beautiful and magical sunset. The beach enables the visitor to come a step closer to nature. There is no public transport available and private transport can be availed from Canacona. Travelling by vechicles is an impossible task as it won't be able to make the trip through brooks, steep climbs and fields. One can take a two hour trek through the forests if you seek adventure. However, visitors usually take a short boat ride from Palolem to reach here.

Since there is no access by road hardly any people visit the beach. But those who make it can enjoy the beach all by themselves.

Lamgau Caves

Lamgau Caves is one of the best caves in Goa. It is carved out of laterite which is extremely delicate. Palm trees encircle the place with abundance. The ceilings and beams have been carved with much dedication. A stone linga is installed with a tulsi vrindavan and a small nandi bull image in a courtyard in one cave. The cave nearest to Lamgau is small but has artistic designs.A small stream adds to the scenic beauty that mesmerises the visitors. While the other cave is much larger it serves as a shelter during winter.

To reach Lamgau Caves you can opt for three ways. You can either drive from Bicholim towards Mapusa and then through Panaji. Following the directions of the Pandava caves, a path through some paddy fields leads to two rock cut caves of Buddhist origin. The other way is via the Lamgau village itself where one needs to trek along the hills to reach the caves. This is an enticing route for those who prefer a little bit of adventure.

The final way to reach the caves is by going on board a jetty from Pigao village. Lamgau lies about 35 kms east of Panaji and should be on your itinerary as it will enable you to understand Goan heritage better.
