Edu society under fire for filling of land

MARGAO

City-based lawyer Adv Rajiv Gomes has claimed that the Vidya Vikas Mandal Society has obtained permission for filling of land from the Town  and Country Planning department by allegedly showing the river Sal as a nullah in

the plan.

Adv Gomes has knocked the doors of the District Collector, South, besides the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority, South Goa Planning and Development Authority, besides the MMC, forest department and the police to immediately stop the ongoing filling of land and construction activity in the flood plans of the river Sal.

Addressing the media, Adv Gomes said that he would give these authorities a week’s time to act on his complaint or he warning of legal recourse. He has demanded that the authorities order the educational society to not only stop the ongoing work of filling of land, but restore it to its original position.

“After my attention was drawn to the filling activity, I checked the site plan submitted by the Vidya

Vikas Academy to the TCP and was shocked to observe River Sal falsely shown as a nullah to misguide the authorities and to obtain the permission,” he said. Adv Gomes contended that by claiming the River Sal as a nullah, the society has obtained permission without obtaining the necessary nod required under the CRZ.

While demanding that the authorities initiate action under the Goa Land Revenue code to restore the land to its original state, Adv Gomes has threatened to knock the doors of the High Court for appropriate relief.
