Raia Sporting Club blanked Maina Sports Club 2-0 to emerge champions of 8th Our Lady of Fatima Cup inter village football tournament organised by Dicarpale Sports Club at Dicarpale ground.

In an absorbing final, both the teams displayed attacking flair and kept the crowds on their toes. Maina Sports Club sounded an early warning in the 5th minute when striker Nelson Fernandes came close in putting his team in front but a rival defender averted the danger by clearing the ball for safety. A minute later, Maina Sports Club's Jameson Noronha's snap shot missed the target narrowly. Raia Sporting Club broke the deadlock in the 22nd minute when Melvin Gaunkar beat the rival goalkeeper with a
snap shot.
Crossing over, Raia Sporting Club enjoyed the lion's share of exchanges and launched a flurry of attacks. In the 41st minute, striker Danny Fernandes sealed the rivals' fate with a good shot. Down by 0-2, Maina tried hard but could not breach the rival citadel.
Raia Sporting Club bagged a prize of Rs 40,000 while Maina Sports Club were richer by Rs 30,000. Govind Gaude, Minister for Art and Culture, was the chief guest and gave away the prizes in the presence of Benjamin Silva, former Velim MLA, and Fr John Philip Menezes, parish priest of Dicarpale Church.
