Tiatr Mogi
An orphaned girl always longs to be in the company of her parents. An orphaned child during the process of her growth always dreams to search for her parents, find out the reasons for being abandoned, forgive them for their desertion and live with them thereafter.
But are all blessed in this? Do orphaned children see the day of meeting their parents? Some may be lucky but luck wont favour the others. Fr Doel Dias, offers a very practical solution to this problem which needs implementation by the concerned authorities and guides the audience through his saga of love and sacrifice in his latest tiatr Chuk Konnachi?
Script
The story unfolds at a slow pace eventhough the events are fast paced in the college. The language is simple and catchy. Fr. Doel has furbished the script with wisdom and drives a point or two home with a style that is characteristic of a priest but in no way appears to give a sermon. This is purely a tiatr script with modest comedy linked to the main storyline. The cantos too are strong and well composed. One great aspect of the script is the right usage of words for different age groups. A child’s language, the jargons of the college youth, and the wisdom of the grownups all are well incorporated in the script.
Comedy
The tiatr has modest and simple comedy and Fr Doel Dias excels in it. The tiatr proves that simple words can make people laugh. Fr Doel has a great timing for comedy. His expressions were great and natural. He was well supported by his partner too. Our senior comedians, specially the newly proclaimed Kings of vulgar comedy should watch this tiatr and see how people enjoy simple and decent comedy.
Sets
This is one of the few popular tiatrs that can boast of having their own sets tailor made as per the requirements of the script. The Orphanage, the college campus were beautifully created with a semi revolving stage. But was it necessary to display the change of setting and people moving around the stage with full vision of the audience.
This concept is surely not from tiatr and is forced on tiatr from nattoks. The thought of change should have been at the script level and accordingly the scenes should have been sequenced. Changing of sets in full view was the only major drawback of this tiatr presentation.
Acting
There are very few known artistes in this tiatr but the acting of the entire cast was well choreographed and directed. The stage movements and dialogue delivery were script motivated and not microphone oriented. Rupesh Joglekar was superb in his portrayal of the role of a matured college professor but needs to sharpen his dancing and canto singing skills. Ivy as the orphaned girl was superb. Her expressions, voice modulation, brisk movements and overall stage presence was outstanding. Sebastiana as the estranged mother was natural. The two colleagues of Ivy were impressive so also the other orphanage characters.
Music/Songs
This is one aspect where the tiatr scores a perfect 1000/100. The Band Music led by the young and talented Sanon. The Band Music was well arranged and the blowing trio of Senon on the trumpet, Fr. Roland Lyn on the Saxophone and Semy Braganza on the Trombone were mind blowing.
The clarity of the blowing, the modulations with which they played made a great listening. They were well assisted and complemented by James Vaz on the keyboards. James was superb in the contra-phrases played. Xavier de Moira is always a star performer and in this tiatr too he displays a class and innovation in drumming that he has been traditionally known. Canon on the bass guitar too had important contributions to make.
The songs had original melodies which is a rare sight in todays commercial tiatrs. The opening chorus was sung in style and gives the tiatr a good beginning. A love duet Devak Argham sung by Prof. Jeffrey and Suzeta, Mother Teresa a solo by Fr. Benjamin Victoria, a choral song in voices by Suzeta, Fr Benjamn Victoria and Prof Jeffrey, made interesting listening. But the pick of the songs that was truly a paisa wasool performance was the saints marching song beautifully sung and presented by the priests trio Fr Doel, Fr Benjamin and Fr Bolmax.
Direction
Staging a tiatr with newcomers and village level artistes deserves great efforts from the director and Fr Doel did not lag behind in this sphere too. Greatly directed and brought up on satge. This tiatr also brings to the fore the immense talent seen in the village and all priests need to follow the example set by Fr Doel and bring the talents on stage. Overall a great tiatr with splendid performance. A tiatr that needs promotion in all villages.
