Art of cooking

#TG Life

The seventh edition of the bestseller Ishtann (in English) was released by Ralph de Souza, chairman, de Souza Group and Varun Sood, Co-founder Capvent AG in the presence of Sapna Sardessai, Publisher, Printer’s Devil and Megha Thakker & Varsha Deshpande, daughters of the author late Padma Mahalé, at a well attended function at Barcode Lounge & Grill in Porvorim recently. Written by late Padma Mahalé and translated from the original Konkani version by Sapna Sardessai, Ishtann (meaning, friendly food) is a collection of traditional Saraswat and other recipes that are immensely popular in Goa.

Besides renowned cookbook authors, writers and end users, late Manoharrai Sardessai has endorsed the book saying that, “The language of Ishtann is clear and simple and the style is clean and crisp”. The recipes in Ishtann range from basic masalas to curries, rice dishes, breads and desserts,  both vegetarian and non-vegetarian.

Sapna Sardessai commenced the event by remembering the late Padma Mahalé with gratitude and affection and revealed that she was the angel behind Printer’s Devil. Ralph de Souza spoke about the need to combine both tradition and the experience of the new, specially within our own Catholic/Hindu community. Varun Sood analysed the growing popularity of Saraswat cuisine in Goa and overseas.

Megha Thakker fondly reminisced her mother’s love for innovation in traditional food to make it appeal to her children. Shreyas Kamat compered the event. Published by Printer’s Devil and distributed by Broadway Book Centre, Ishtann is now available at all leading book stores in Goa.
