MARGAO: Congress MLA Reginaldo Lourenco on Saturday took up cudgels for the 36-odd students who have completed three-year diploma in security & investigation technology in government polytechnic Panaji, but have been without jobs since the last 10 years.
Flanked by the beleaguered students, Reginaldo told the media that he has written another letter to the Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar to accommodate the students in the police department as police sub-inspectors in the cyber cell or the forensic department.
He demanded to know why was such a three-year diploma course in security & investigation technology started by the Parrikar government in 2003 if there was no avenue for suitable jobs in this area. “Parrikar government’s 2018 IT policy of creating 8000-10,000 jobs for the sons of the soil and the BJP’s election manifesto of 2017 promising unemployment free state by 2022 are nothing, but a figment of imagination,” he said.
“All these students are niz Goemkars, who had not only passed out of the polytechnic, but had undergone training in forensic science. The government should use their rich expertise by absorbing them in the designated jobs of the cyber cells and police stations of Goa,” he added.
These 36 students in the past had called on Parrikar with a plea to absorb them in government service, preferably in the police department since they have completed their three-year diploma in security and investigation technology.
The Congress MLA told the media that he had written two letters addressed to the Chief Minister in January 2018 and a reminder dated June 22 last, but lamented that he has not yet received response. He said the issue was earlier raised on the floor of the House on August 7, 2017, by Bicholim MLA Rajesh Patnekar expressing concern over the students’ joblessness.
