A Goan who is currently serves as Vice President Compliance and Environmental Operations at Carnival Cruise Line has been appointed to the Board of Directors of the North American Marine Environment Protection Association (NAMEPA).
According to a report in the NAMEPA website, Lobo has had a distinguished career dedicated to advancing Maritime Compliance and Marine Environmental operational excellence, and brings extensive experience and leadership that will support NAMEPA’s mission to “Save Our Seas.”
“We are thrilled to welcome Benton to the NAMEPA Board of Directors. His dedication to environmental stewardship and his forward-thinking approach to sustainable operations in the cruise sector make him an invaluable addition to our leadership team,” stated NAMEPA Chairman Joe Hughes in the report.
Hailing from Vasco, Benton’s father was employed at the mines of Sesa Goa and the family shifted locations to various places in Goa, including Sanquelim and Codli, before the family settled in Curchorem, the nearest town to the Codli mines.
As Vice President, Compliance and Environmental Operations at Carnival Cruise Line, the NAMEPA report stated that Benton leads key initiatives related to compliance, environmental performance, and sustainable maritime practices across the company’s global fleet. His work focuses on driving environmental integrity, enhancing operational procedures, and supporting the cruise line’s broader sustainability commitments.
Benton, who was quoted in the report, stated: “Protecting our oceans and championing sustainable business practices has never been more vital. Besides, Benton’s unique perspective from the world’s largest cruise company will further enrich NAMEPA’s programs focused on protecting the marine environment, engaging communities, and supporting environmental responsibility across the maritime sector.
