Goans usher in New Year with event in Ashford-London

LONDON

The United Friends London-UK ushered in the New Year with Goans attending the New Year’s Dinner Dance ‘Goodbye 2025 & Welcome 2026’, held at St Michael's Church Hall, Ashford-London on December 31.

The evening was a blend of music, dance, and community spirit. Entertainment was provided by the UK’s popular Goan trio band Jus Leo featuring Val & Zie, along with RE-SYNC (Reman & DJ Synclair) and DJ Enrico. The event was compered by Simon Varella, a well-known MC on the Goan social circuit in the UK.

Guests enjoyed a buffet catered by Mum’s Delight Caterers, led by Fredy Wilfred Carvalho, while the hall was transformed by CCubes Deco, curated by Drina and Tim.

For the past nine years, United Friends London-UK and BFS Events have organised the St Francis Xavier’s Feast Dance, with the most recent ninth edition held on November 29, 2025.

Encouraged by strong demand from their loyal patrons, the organisers hosted this New Year’s Eve Dinner Dance as their second edition.

Founded in August 2017, United Friends London-UK is led by President Sonia Antao, supported by a team comprising Brito Carvalho, Gudencio Fernandes, Vallen Fernandes, Savio Fernandes, Sanjay Andrade, and Fredy Carvalho.

Adding a fun twist to the celebrations, the highlight of the night was the much enjoyed “Naming of the Old Man” contest and the “Best Cry over the Old Man,” with prizes awarded alongside several spot prizes.

“Our guests keep requesting us to organise more Goan social events because they know we give true value for money,” said Sonia Antao. “Their continued love and support motivate us to keep going.”

Fredy Wilfred Carvalho echoed this sentiment, adding, “Our St Francis Xavier Feast Dance is always sold out despite multiple events happening on the same day across the UK. Next year marks a decade of organising this feast dance, and our strength comes from our loyal friends and well-wishers.”

A part of the proceeds from all United Friends London-UK events goes toward supporting members of the Goan community both in the UK and in Goa, particularly individuals who are sick or in need.

Rather than donating to institutions, the association focuses on helping people directly, ensuring that every contribution makes a meaningful difference.
