Memory Man with a health mantra

Popularly known as the ‘Memory Man’, Dr Biswaroop Roy Chowdhury is a globally renowned Indian medical nutritionist and also empowers people against lifestyle diseases. Dr Chowdhury speaks to The Goan on various issues regarding health, diet and medicines

BHARATI PAWASKAR

The Goan: You claim that diabetes is not a dangerous illness and it can be cured in 72 hours. How?

Dr Biswaroop Roy Chowdhury: Diabetes is not a disease. It’s a ‘medical condition’ for the moment and can be altered. Whatever we consumes, keeps our blood sugar level higher so control diet and make food your medicine, there would be no diabetes.

TG: Your tips on diet to stay free from diabetic condition

BRC: There are three steps and one can do it at home. Eat fruits till 12 noon. Have a fruity breakfast. For 50 kg weight one has to consume maximum 500 grams of peeled fruits (can be more but not less). For lunch and dinner, have two plates - one with raw food of four kinds (vegetables) 250 grams for 50 kg weight and second with homely, home cooked vegetarian food. Avoid animal food, fat food or processed food (eg milk, eggs, biscuits, cakes, bread etc).

After heating all types of oils are bad. This diet will normalise your blood sugar on the same day. It will lower your blood pressure on 4th or 5th onwards. You can taper the medicines accordingly in consultation with your doctor as how much to and when to taper the doses. Once you stick to this diet, you no longer will need medicines to control your sugar or blood pressure.

TG: What about Juvenile diabetes? Can it be cured too?

BRC: Yes, depending upon the condition of the child. Pick up any healthy kid and feed with A1 milk and refined food for a month and the kid will clinically turn type I diabetic patient. Once the kid is put on insulin then the body will adjust itself and start producing less insulin to accommodate the outside insulin. The size of the pancreas will stop growing, it will remain smaller. If you continue giving insulin for such child for one year, then the child will not come to normal. But if the child follows the diet prescribed above, within one year of being on (diet) therapy he/she will be totally normal and the size of the pancreas will recover. People with high blood sugar when put on a diet, become normal. For type 2 diabetes, if the person is beyond 21 years, the condition can be reversed even if he/she has been taking insulin for many years. This is because his pancreas has fully grown by 21.

TG: Can insulin dependency be reduced or discarded?

BRC: Yes, of course.

TG: What is the correct limit of sugar in the blood? And is it different for different people (say sports person, active person, inactive person, child, youth, elderly, sick etc)?

BRC: Yes, there are different limits of sugar in the blood for different persons. It is also important to see from where the blood is taken - from the vein or the finger. The fingers have capillaries and hence there is more sugar. At a time if blood is taken from the same person from two different parts (vein and finger) there would be two different readings. The reading from the finger will be higher.

TG: What made you do research in various illnesses?

BRC: I had suffered from a major heart condition in my childhood that was corrected only after an open heart surgery.

Travelling across India I consumed immense literature on topics relative to effectively controlling the mind, increasing memory and self-healing principles for the human body and it was only after the comprehension and self-application of this monumental knowledge that I was able to fully recover from my physical-mental ailments.

TG: What is your goal?

BRC: I aim to make people free from diseases, not to put them on medication but relieve their sufferings through education and awareness.
