Plataforma Independente, a panel with Goans has won elections to the Council of the Portuguese Communities (CPC) in the UK, securing 10 of the 12 seats available for the Portuguese Diaspora Advisers in Great Britain.
Elections of Councillors for the Portuguese Diaspora Community in Great Britain took place on November 26. After counting of 577 votes (with 3 void votes and 2 nil votes), the ‘Independent Platform’ panel led by Antonio Manuel Mota da Cunha won with 423 votes, followed by ‘For the Change’ lanel led by Pedro Filipe Anes Xavier (110 votes) and ‘Unite for the Future’ Jorge Vieira Sbazo (44 votes).
The Goan candidates in the Plataforma Independente panel, Ciana D'Costa, Wilson Fernandes and Chris Da Costa, were part of the team who won with the help of the Portuguese Goan voters. Ciana will be effective advisor, Wilson supplementary and Chris will be the regional representative.
“This is a victory for Portuguese nationals who respects each other and believes in unity of all its nationals regardless of their origin.”

Goans ran for elections for the first time to be Advisory Councillors of the Portuguese Community of Great Britain.
The Advisories to the Portuguese Consulates in the UK is a part of the Council of the Portuguese Communities (CPC). The CPC is the Portuguese government's advisory body for policies relating to emigration and Portuguese communities living abroad and will raise issues and reduce hardships pertaining to any consulate work, incentive the promotion of Portuguese culture heritage and language.
