The motor vehicle accidents are on the rise on the roads across the State.
Last week there was a accident at 18th June Road near Fidalgo hotel, between car and scooter. A large number of accidents take place due to lack of motorable space and impediments on the roads, mainly encroached by parking.
The road infrastructure available in the city is in a bad condition and even what was available is being unscientifically used. And the other reason for rising road accident fatalities due to a largely lax system of issuing driving licences and improper training to learners by driving schools.
People who get licenses have no comprehensive training and road rules are not emphasized upon. But road safety in Goa is in a pitiable state.
The inability of agencies the curb the rise in number of road accident is turning to be a big concern in the State. Most of the licence holders are non-deserving candidates.
The Ministry for Road Transport needs to implement changes at ground level and the process of getting a license should be made stricter.
