Apropos to the news report in The Goan Everyday on the deaths of linesmen while on duty.
It is indeed shocking to know that since 2018, as many as 14 line helpers died while on duty. The maximum numbers of deaths were reported this year -- from March to November. Before that it was in 2020, when four linemen lost lives while on duty.
The question that comes to mind is despite so much of technology available the electricity department seems to still resort to primitive ways.
There should be proper coordination between the ground staff to avoid such accidents that lead to loss of precious lives. Mobile phones, messages, wireless handsets should be used to coordinate while switching on/off the power to avoid such incidents.
The concerned officials and the department need to take quick remedial measures to check such incidents. Also it would be in the fitness of things if the government compensates the family of the deceased at the earliest.
