PANAJI: The Feast of St John the Baptist, patron saint of Pilerne, will be celebrated on Tuesday.
The Novenas began on June 15 with the Masses being held at 5.30 pm. The preachers during the Novenas were Fr Diogo da Gama sfx, Fr Lester Carvalho Ofm Cap, Fr Francis Pires and Fr Jose Silveira sj.
The preachers preached mostly on the values of humility, truth, courage, simplicity, austerity, prayer and penance.
On the Feast Day the first Mass will be celebrated at 7 am, the concelebrated Feast Mass will be celebrated at 9.30 am. Fr Nazareth Fernandes sfx, Superior General of the Society of Pilar will be the main celebrant for the Feast Mass.
According to tradition, the Feast is celebrated by the Gaunkars of Pilerne along with the Parish Council and Associations of St John the Baptist Church, Pilerne.
On June 29, the Parish Youth of Pilerne (PYP) will organise an event called ‘Plash 7.0’. The programme will begin with a fishing competition at 3 pm. Water games such as volleyball, hatching the egg, and many more will follow in the church compound. There will be cultural singing and dance contest.
The guests are expected to be present with costumes related to the feast. There will also be many spot prizes. A live village band will be in attendance to entertain the crowd.
