MARGAO: Pidadigal Sports Club blanked Rumba United Club 3-0 to enter the quarterfinals of 1st Caniza Peixoto Memorial 9-a-side football tournament, organised by Agxem Sports Club, at St.Alex Church ground, Curtorim, on Monday.
The game started on slow pace and both teams tried to take control of the ball. It was Pidadigal who drew the first blood in the 15th minute through Ruwan Fernandes and again he doubled the lead in 20th minute to complete his brace while Rumba's Olive Colaco's header missed the target before half time.
As match progressed, in the second half, Rumba United attacked the Pidadigal defence with combination of Alcino Paes, Rama Zalmi and Movin Menezes but the defence of Pidadigal stood like a rock and denied scoring opportunities. Later on, Pidadigal further inflated lead through Mingel Fernandes in the 52nd minute. The goalkeeper of Rumba United Matvey Mascarenhas saved three one-to-one chances and excelled under the bar.
Seby Martin player of Agxem Sports Club presented the man of the match award to Matvey Mascarenhas goalkeeper of Rumba United.
