PANAJI: St Anne’s Church, Ponda, will host the Rev Fr Dr Bolmax Pereira Memorial Lecture on Sunday, September 13, as part of the 8th Centenary Celebration of the Transitus of St Francis of Assisi (1226-2026) and Season of Creation 2026. Titled “Faith, Science and Action for Our Common Home”, the lecture will be held at 4 pm at St Anne’s Church Hall, focusing on climate change, its implications for Goa and the need for collective environmental action. Climate scientist Dr Roxy Mathew Koll will deliver the principal address on climate change and its implications for India and Goa, and the need to turn scientific understanding into action. Environmentalist and Padma Shri awardee Norma Alvares will highlight Goa’s ecological challenges and the role of citizens in protecting forests, rivers, wetlands, coastline and communities. The lecture commemorates Rev Fr Dr Bolmax Pereira (1976-2026), who contributed to ecology and the Church’s engagement with care for creation. It is part of the Season of Creation Parish 2026 at St Anne’s Church, themed “Living Waters”. Observed from September 1 to October 4, the Season of Creation encourages communities to strengthen their relationship with creation and take concrete steps to protect the environment.
