Former Sanguem councillor Messiah (Meshu) D'Costa joined the Goa Forward Party (GFP) on Saturday in the presence of party president Vijai Sardesai, senior leaders, office-bearers and supporters.

The induction is expected to strengthen the regional party's organisation in Sanguem ahead of the 2027 Goa Assembly elections. D'Costa, known for his grassroots activism and civic campaigns, has led several public agitations in the constituency.
Welcoming him, Sardesai said the GFP believes in empowering leaders who stay connected with the people and fight for public causes. He described D'Costa as a committed leader who has earned public trust through his work on local issues and said his entry would further strengthen the party's base while encouraging more youth to join the regional movement.
Speaking after joining the party, D'Costa said his decision was driven by his commitment to serve the people of Sanguem and protect Goa's interests.
“The Goa Forward Party has consistently taken a stand on issues concerning the identity, environment and rights of Goans. I wanted to be part of a platform that values the voices of ordinary citizens,” he said.
D'Costa pledged to continue raising issues related to infrastructure, employment, road safety and civic amenities. Several supporters from across Sanguem also joined the GFP, reinforcing the party's efforts to expand its grassroots presence in the constituency.

Sanguem council faces flak over tricolour lapse

SANGUEM: The Sanguem Municipal Council has come under criticism after the national Tricolour was allegedly not hoisted at the municipal office for three consecutive days last week. Former councillor Meshu D’Costa raised the issue, alleging that the failure to hoist the national flag reflected a serious lapse on the part of the civic body. He has sought an explanation from the municipal authorities for the flag not being displayed during the 3-day period.
