MGP leader Sudin Dhavalikar has demanded that the lockdown period should be extended for 15 days so that the chain of the virus spread breaks. While putting forth a point that human life is greater than the economy, Dhavlikar demanded that the High Court should take sou moto cognizance and direct the government to extend the lockdown.

"I urge the High Court of Bombay at Goa to take suo moto cognizance of the Covid surge and direct the state government to extend the lockdown," said Dhavlikar.

The MGP MLA said that even though the lockdown affects economic activities, industrial activities, and all small businesses which directly affects daily wage workers, considering the grim situation in Goa, there is no other alternative than to impose a 15-day lockdown to break the Covid chain and curb the spread of the second wave.

“We need to prioritize human life over the economy. We can bring back the economy but not the dead. The government can provide incentives to boost the economy as we fight this pandemic,” he added.

While commenting on the present pandemic situation, Dhavlikar said that the health infrastructure is overburdened in the state.

As per reports from the Health Department and senior doctors, the situation is expected to worsen. We are expecting to witness more cases and a high mortality rate if the situation remains the same, he added.
