PORVORIM: Krishnakant Chodankar has been elected unopposed as the Deputy Sarpanch of the Salvador do Mundo village panchayat. The post fell vacant after former Deputy Sarpanch Rajesh Savoikar resigned two months ago, citing personal reasons. The Mapusa Block Development Officer (BDO) convened a special meeting at the panchayat office on Monday to elect a new Deputy Sarpanch.
Five panchayat members, including Sarpanch Namrata Chodankar and panch members Rajesh Savoikar, Roshni Savoikar, Krishnakant Chodankar and Bindiya Naik, attended the meeting. Four members — Rakhi Salgaonkar, Reena Fernandes, Vijay Dalvi and Dattaram Redkar — were absent. As Chodankar was the only candidate, BDO extension officer Kushali Halarnkar declared him elected unopposed. Panchayat secretary Orville Vales assisted in conducting the proceedings.
