No cricket venue in Goa for 3 years?

Cricket fans will not be able to watch any international cricket match played in the state for atleast three years after the C M Manohar Parrikar’s took back the land at Tivim sanctioned for the stadium in the light of opposition by the farmers in the area.

The Vice- President and stadium in charge, Dr Shekhar Salkarof the Goa Cricket Association said the CM was still open to the idea of giventhem the plot at Tivim if the cricket association could come to an agreementwith the farmers.

Salkar however said that he had looked at plots around Goato ascertain their suitability for a cricket stadium.  He said “The CM and Sport Minister have assuredus that they can provide us land from the area already acquired for the sportcity in Dhargalim. I have talked to two private parties in the same area andduring our meeting scheduled for September 1, 2012 we shall decide on a courseof action.”

In addition, Salkar had also looked at plots in Malpe,Sangulem, Cortalim, Farmagudi and Bicholim.
