Mapusa police arrested a 22-year-old man from Jharkhand and seized around 2 kg of ganja, allegedly meant for trafficking, during a raid at the new KTC bus stand on Wednesday night.
The accused has been identified as Vishal Kumar Manjhi, a resident of Palamu, Jharkhand.
Police said the raid was conducted between 8.45 pm and 10.45 pm on September 16 following a tip-off about suspected drug trafficking in the parking area of the new KTC bus stand.
A police team allegedly noticed Manjhi behaving suspiciously and detained him for questioning. A subsequent search led to the recovery of around 2 kg of ganja, which police estimated to be worth approximately Rs 2 lakh in the international market.
Mapusa police have registered a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and arrested Manjhi. Further investigation is underway to ascertain the source of the drug and its intended destination.
The raid was conducted by Sub-Inspectors Bablo Parab, Mangesh Palni and Viraj Korgaonkar, Head Constable
Sushant Chopdekar, police personnel Shivaji Shetkar, and Constables Rajesh Kandolkar, Prathamesh Mote, Pundalik Aroskar and Ratik Raut.
