Kala Academy’s unending crisis

Adelmo Fernandes, Vasco | JANUARY 30, 2024, 12:24 AM IST

A video of water accumulating on the carpeted floor of the newly renovated Dinananth Mangeshkar air-conditioned auditorium has raised concerns of the recently completed renovation work at the Kala Academy. The newly laid seats in the auditorium were cordoned off with pedestal fans apparently to dry up the floor in a bid to prevent damage to the carpet.

Obviously the fans will get affected. The concerned minister has reportedly said that the water of the newly renovated Kala Academy was due to faulty fire hydrant valve. However it is learnt that water logging has been a perennial problem at the premier art and culture center. Be that as it may, as if this is not enough negative news, a day later a snake was found in the auditorium. If the water on the floor of the Kala Academy is due to a faulty fire hydrant valve, how did the snake enter the auditorium?

Obviously it could not have come through the fire hydrant. The presence of the snake in the auditorium raises the question about the safety of the people visiting it for the various programs. The question on everybody’s mind is what next? It seems necessary for the authorities to get to the bottom of the problem and set things right at the earliest before the next show is held here.
