‘We for Palolem’ celebrated World Environment Day on Wednesday by distributing over 200 fruit bearing saplings at the Palolem beach area. In a door-to-door visit to several houses in Palolem, ‘We for Palolem’ members led by its president Gasper Coutinho handed over different types of fruit bearing saplings and appealed to residents to plant and take proper care of them till they grow big and yield fruits. The members reminded the residents of the urgent need to protect and beautify the environment and one of the best ways to protect and beautify nature is to plant as many trees as possible. “Trees help not only to cleanse, but have the potential to maintain a healthy environment,” said Coutinho, who is also Congress South Goa District Organisation General Secretary. Before their door-to-door campaign, members came together and planted some fruit-bearing saplings in some common land, as part of World Environment Day celebrations. Along with the Coutinho, Organisation Secretary Rosario Fernandes, Antonio Pereira, Piedade Cardozo, Mercy Fernandes, Emilia Dias, Mariano Pereira, Ross Fernandes, Joaquim Sequeira, and several other members were involved in the programme.
