A part of the peripheral retaining wall of the Assolna football ground which is under the Sports Authority of Goa (SAG) collapsed recently.
According to the villagers, the initial cause of the collapse is due to the lack of a proper drainage system at the ground. However, there were no casualties reported.
The ground which is yet to be inaugurated is being constructed with an estimate cost of Rs 35 lakhs.
"The reason for the collapse of the retaining wall are being inquired into after receiving complaints from the football players," said Velim MLA Cruz Silva.
"I have raised the plight of the ground in the Assembly house and Sports Minister Govind Gaude assured to address the issue," said the Velim MLA who has also discussed the matter with SAG officials and instructed them to carry out the reconstruction of the wall.
