A coding competition has been organised to motivate the students from Government and Aided schools undergoing the new syllabus under the Information Communications & Technology (ICT) curriculum of classes 6 to 8 as part of the Coding and Robotics Education in schools scheme.
The Project Management Unit, formed under the Directorate of Technical Education, and managing the Coding and Robotics Education in schools of Goa scheme, has launched the coding competition in collaboration with the Directorate of Education and State Council for Educational Research & Training (SCERT).
A press release states that the objective of the competition is to provide a platform for the students to express their creativity with the help of the concepts taught in school. Coding has become an extremely beneficial skill to have in the 21st century to become future-ready and this competition strives to provide an opportunity to creatively depict solutions. Coding helps develop skills such as abstraction, pattern recognition and decomposition which are essential for tackling real-life problems. Keeping this in mind the ICT curriculum was updated for standards 6th to 8th as part of the CARES scheme declared in budget 2021.
Three contests are to be held till Jan 10, 2022; with exciting prizes to be won. Students can participate in the contest as individuals or teams. Two popular platforms selected as the mandatory base for these coding contests are Scratch and Pictoblox.
