This year’s ‘Bhangaralo Goemkar’ award given by Bhangarale Goi Asmitai has been awarded to veteran playwright and writer Pundalik Naik. The organisation has announced a new award from this year in memory of late Nityanand Naik, ‘Nitya Yuva’ which went to young artist Nandan Kuncolienkar.
Veteran writer Pundalik Naik’s contribution to the Konkani literature and Indian theatre field is vast. Naik’s plays have been staged on national level and critics have appreciated them. His Konkani plays have been translated in Hindi, Marathi, Kannada and Tamil too. Naik wrote plays, poetry, novels, one-act-plays, essays, autography and songs too. He won the Sahitya Academi Puraskar for his one-act plays ‘Chaurang’ in 1984. He also won Goa State cultural award, Goa government’s ‘Rangsanman’ award, Sangeet Natak Academy’s award, Konkani Bhasha Mandal award as well as Goa Konkani Akademi award too, says the press release.
