Residents of Mollem, some of who were among those who were detained on Wednesday from outside the Chief Minister’s official residence, have vowed to continue the fight against the government’s adamancy to go ahead with the projects in protected forests.“We travelled all the way from Mollem. We wanted him to simply receive it but he refused,” said Krishna Zore, a Mollem resident detained on Wednesday.
Zore said, the cancelling of the October 4 gram sabha where they were promised their objections to the projects will be addressed, had prompted them to go with the memorandum to the chief minister. Cecille Rodrigues, who was also among those detained from outside the Chief Minister’s official bungalow, said: “We were not even told why we were being arrested, or under what provision of law,” adding that they were detained for five hours till 9 pm. Hundreds of Goans have been voicing their concerns over the last couple of months that the projects proposed through protected forests will cause irreversible damage.
