To mark International Day of Drug Abuse on June 26, musician Glenn Perry organized a walkathon to battle drug abuse. The 4 km walkathon was from Colva to Benaulim.Perry who has organized anti-drugs events since 21 years around the world has urged parents, political leaders, and community leaders to band together to combat drug abuse, which he claims has infiltrated Goa and is ruining the youth. "It is unfortunate that drugs and cultism appear to the youth to be cool, and we are losing intellectual minds to these vices," he said. Perry who had a massive brain stroke two years ago, and is still suffering from the repercussions of the stroke said that the anti-drug walkathon is a campaign to raise awareness to discourage the youth from using drugs and harmful substances. According to Glenn, "the only way to combat these vices is to engage the youth in positive activities that make them feel like they are a part of the community." Part of this engagement includes training workshops, music and other forms of creative arts that will help them become self-sufficient and provide skill acquisition."
