PANAJI
The Ecotiva club of Don Bosco College in Panaji organised a Beach Clean-Up Drive to commemorate International Coastal Clean-Up Day. The campaign was held in collaboration with Goeankar Sangathi and the department of Physical Education at Miramar beach, with over 50 volunteers. The principal of Don Bosco College Dr Cedric Silveira appreciated the team for their hard work. Through this clean up drive, the club wanted everyone to remember that “ ‘The ocean takes care of us, so let’s return the favour.’
Goeankar Sangathi members Ivo Gonsalves and Joshua D’Costa along with other team mates sponsored the gloves and garbage bags which were distributed to the participants along with a brief explanation on the methods of segregation and collection. A small pep talk on protecting the environment and water bodies was delivered by ex-student, Carisio Azavedo, who also joined the drive. The participants were very enthusiastic, and within a few hours, had a collection of garbage well-segregated and piled. It was later collected by the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP). The drive was organised by the club in-charge, Glenda Mascarenhas, and was attended by Ajith Gopi, Gilbert Mendes, Sachin Parsekar, Ryan Pereira, Nigel Barreto and Delina Figueredo “ faculty of the college.
