BELAGAVI
A team of doctors at the Lakeview Hospital in Belagavi have performed successfully a rare surgery on a 26-year-old woman extracting a 2.5-kilo fibroid cyst from her abdomen.
“The woman had complained of abdominal pain for the last seven years and did not opt for surgery due to huge costs involved. Considering her medical and financial situation, we decided to perform the surgery at an affordable cost,” said noted gynaecologist and surgeon, Dr Jayashree B Patil.
“After primary tests and diagnosis, a laparoscopic (key hole) surgery was performed and the fibroid was removed in pieces and there was no need to make a big incision.”
Dr Patil said the woman’s family had approached the hospital for infertility issues and the fibroid was diagnosed during primary tests.
“Apart from fertility issues, if the fibroid had existed for a few more years, it would have led to cancer. The surgery was conducted successfully without causing any collateral damage and the woman can now conceive and live a happy life,” Dr Patil said.
She acknowledged the hospital’s team comprising the anesthesiologist, surgeon and nursing staff of playing an important role in the surgery.
