The lurking fear of Covid-19 took a back seat, as hundreds of people came out to witness the colourful Shigmo parade which wound its way through the streets of Mapusa on Sunday evening.
The Shigmo parade started two hours late but that did not deter hundreds of people who came to witness the float parade.
A number of groups of traditional folk dancers like ‘ghode modni’ and ‘fugdi’ and artists of ‘romtamel’ troupes dressed in colourful attire danced to the rhythmic beats enthralling the spectators who had lined up the streets of Mapusa town to witness the parade.
Huge floats depicting the mythological scenes with the special lighting effect provided a boost to the parade.
A total of 15 floats along with eight romtamel troupes, five folk dance troupes and 22 fancy dress contestants took part in the parade.
Incidentally, Covid-19 precautions went for a toss as people were seen moving around without masks.
Mapusa MLA, Joshua D’Souza along with Mapusa Municipal Council Chairperson, Shubhangi Vaigankar flagged off the parade.
