Shaba Sawant Desai has been re-elected as chairman of the Canacona Community Health Centre (CHC) Employees Co-operative Society Ltd. Sawant Desai, who has been chairman for the last 11 years, was re-elected on Thursday. Earlier on August 29, the election was held for the appointment of board of directors. The other committee members are Savita Sawant (Vice-chairman), Abhaya Mudkudkar (Secretary), Raksha Rane (Jt Secretary) and Meena Daikar (Treasurer). Founded in 1994, the Canacona CHC Employees Co-operative Society with its area of operations in Canacona and Quepem talukas, has an annual turnover of over Rs 6 crore and provides loans up to Rs 15 lakh at an interest rate of 10.5% pa. The society has a net deposit of Rs 3.5 crore and loans to the tune of Rs 2.16 crore have been issued by the society, consisting of staff of Canacona CHC and the Balli Primary Health Centre, Balli.
