MARGAO
South Goa Additional Collector Ajit Panchwadkar on Saturday urged the industry and the government to ensure that Goan cashew nut and feni are promoted in the international markets.
He was speaking at the district level Exporters Conclave organised by the Directorate of Industries, Trade and Commerce, Govermnet of Goa in Collaboration with Directorate General of Foreign Trade at the Ravindra Bhavan, Margao on Saturday.
“Goan cashew nut is the much sought after product in the world. Sadly, Goa today receives cashew nuts from the African countries, which after being processed is being exported to the world as Goan cashew nut. We have to go for course correction so that people get genuine Goan cashew nut in the market”, Panchwadkar said.
Similarly, he said the Goan cashew feni should be promoted vigorously in the market, including the international market a la Russian Vodka. “When people go on a tour to Russia, they return back with bottles of Vodka as memento. We should promote our Goan cashew feni on similar lines to the tourists visiting the state every year”, he said.
Director of Industries, Swetika Sachan, IAS and representatives of CII, Indian Women Network, Goa, ASSOCHAM, Goa also addressed the program and guided the participants.
A workshop on exports of existing and aspiring exporters was held at the venue.
A number of entrepreneurs set up their stalls showcasing their products.
