The long-pending demand of the villagers of Chandor, Guirdolim and neighbouring villages for an underpass at the Chandor railway crossing finally became a reality on Saturday on the occasion of the birthday of Cuncolim MLA Clafacio Dias.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant inaugurated the underpass built at a cost of Rs 95 lakh by the Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd on Saturday in the presence of Power Minister Nilesh Cabral, who represents the neighbouring Curchorem constituency. The underpass has been dedicated to the people of Chandor and Guirdolim.
Built at a cost of Rs 95 lakh, the six-meter wide underpass with 12.8 meter height will ensure that even an ambulance would pass through the subway. The Chief Minister also laid the foundation stone for a road over bridge, over the railway tracks, with power minister saying the ROB will be thrown open for the people by December.
In his address, the Chief Minister said his government would take up the pending works in the Guirdolim-Chandor area, including the playground. He said the government has advertised around 6000 posts and would soon advertise the remaining for 4000 jobs, adding that capable candidates from Cuncolim constituency would also get jobs in the coming days.
In his address, Power Minister Nilesh Cabral recalled his coordination with the elected representatives of both Guirdolim and Chandor and the villagers to find appropriate solution to the underpass issue. “Unlike the Comba subway, we wanted an underpass which would be motorable throughout the year. Hence, we decided on a height of 2.8 meters so that there’s no water logging during the monsoons”, he said, adding that the underpass will also benefit the people of Curchorem constituency.
Cuncolim MLA Clafacio expressed satisfaction that the issue of underpass at the Chandor railway crossing has been finally resolved during his tenure as MLA. “Many MLAs and ministers had promised construction of an underpass, but I got it done with the help of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and support of Power Minister Nilesh Cabral and the people of Guirdolim and Chandor”, he said.
He took the platform to assure the Parish priest that he would extend all government support to complete the cemetery work initiated by the Church.
